Just as French royalty indulged their every whim at Versailles, their 18th century German equivalents did likewise at Potsdam. Das Neue Palais was the last of several palaces built in the Sans Souci Park, and was later the venue for Count von Bismarck’s 1914 declaration of war. Rather like the Kaiser’s ambitions, the Palace is crumbling in parts, requiring us to wear felt slippers for much of the tour!
