Friday 23 July: Technology, old and new


Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge has provided Bristolians with a convenient way of crossing the gorge since completion in 1864. The renowned engineer would doubtless be less impressed with the low grade tolling technology, which excludes 1p, 2p and 5p coins from cash payments. No wonder most locals use a swipe card instead.
