Our departure from Paris Gare du Nord to Brussels was fine, the Thalys train speeding us to the Belgian capital in a mere 82 minutes. Spare a thought, therefore, for the unlucky travellers aiming to depart Gare d’Austerlitz at the same time, stranded after a lightning strike took out the station on the second busiest travel day of the year.
