Notre Dame Cathedral casts a long shadow over the Île de la Cité, sucking in visitors from early morning onwards. Originally built in the mid-12th century, but substantially rebuilt or modified on numerous occasions, it has a secondary function as a shaded seating area for those awaiting their next photo opportunity pit-stop.
