Saturday 24 July: The calm (well) after the storm


Nearly sixty years ago, this tranquil scene was anything but, as a major rain cell swept across North Devon, swelling local rivers to the point where much of Lynmouth was under water. Dozens of buildings were swept away and 34 people died, including a couple of visitors from Melbourne, now buried at Box Hill cemetery.
