Sir George Gilbert-Scott’s Midland Grand Hotel and Sir Colin Wilson’s more recent British Library building are poles apart architecturally. However, both share the same orange-brown London bricks, and their proximity on Euston Road forces the viewer to make the comparison. Both were controversial when built, but have settled down to be good neighbours in this otherwise undistinguished area.
